— BOZEMAN FILM SOCIETY—
Board of Directors
Executive Director
Lisa McGrory
Executive Director 2014-current; BFS President 2006-2013; Board Member 2002-2005 — Since 1978, Lisa has called Bozeman home after a childhood spent around the globe as a military brat. In 1980, she found her creative footing in Film and Theater Arts at Montana State University, where she crossed paths with many of the original visionaries behind the Bozeman Film Festival — including Dr. Jack Stonnell, Dr. Bill Neff, Dr. Paul Trout, Lynne Merrick, and Jan Strout.— For 25 years, Lisa has helped advance the BFF torch into new eras, working alongside an inspired Board of Directors to celebrate bold storytelling, cultivate community through cinema, and keep the spirit of independent film alive in Bozeman — keeping ’em flickering for generations to come.
Interim President, Secretary
Barbara Prescott
Barbara is a solo practitioner of Prescott Civil Law. When not working, Barbara enjoys spending time with her family and friends in Montana and exploring the natural beauty of Montana and Wyoming, hiking, fishing, cycling, and camping in her vintage Shasta trailer.
Interim Vice-President, Treasurer
Susan Higgins
A water planner and science educator who has long appreciated the art of storytelling when it comes to technical topics. Sue looks forward to viewing great films with you that take us to new ideas and far-off places.
Director
Bruce Brown
Bruce Brown is a Montana- and New York–admitted lawyer whose career has taken him across three continents. He has held senior legal and compliance roles in Tokyo, London, and New York, including Managing Director and General Counsel for Asia at KBC Financial Products, and earlier practiced at Skadden Arps on multi-billion-dollar transactions for major global banks.—
Since returning to Montana in 2009, Bruce has served as General Counsel for Printing For Less and as a board member for SwiftMD. He lives in Bozeman with his wife, Asako, and has a passion for restoring historic buildings.
Director
Doreen deRoque
Doreen is a Midwestern native who spent 20 years in the San Franciso Bay Area before moving to Bozeman in 2023. An avid film lover & frequent film festival attendee, she brings both a deep appreciation for cinema and values film not only as entertainment, but as a powerful tool for connection, conversation, and community building. Currently working at University of CA, Berkeley, Doreen brings extensive experience in event & project management, community outreach & board management. She is also involved in the community as a Thrive CAP mentor, member of Gallatin Valley Newcomer’s Club and the League of Women Voters. She enjoys hiking, skiing, playing Mah Jongg & traveling with her husband (frequently visiting their kids in Denver, Chicago & London).
Director
Laura Harris
Laura has an MA in counseling and works as a therapist. She loves investigating who we are and what blocks or brings true joy. She has a passion for exploring different spiritual paths through retreats and pilgrimages. Stories told through film and theatre are her favorite way to gain new perspectives. She has lived in Bozeman since 1997 with her husband and two artist/storytelling sons.
Director
Julie Hitchcock
A graduate of MSU, a longtime Bozemanite, and a keen supporter of community non-profits, Julie relishes the opportunity to contribute to BFS and its decades-long effort to bring important independent films to the valley. She vividly remembers the first movie she saw on the big screen and is proud of her (one and only) producer credit on a film about the historic Missoula Mercantile.
Director
Aaron Kampfe
Both locally-rooted and globally-attuned, Aaron’s life experience includes being part of a five-generation Montana cattle ranching family, being ‘raised’ on the slopes of Red Lodge Mountain, graduating from Boston University, and owning an international adventure travel company. Over the past 25 years, Aaron has worked in sales, marketing, brand development, and management for companies with national and international reach. Happily based in Bozeman, Aaron functions as WHJ’s COO and still finds time to write and edit for the publication… except on a powder day.
Director
Heather Miller
BFS President 2023–24 | Board Member 2021–present. Heather believes in the power of film to spark conversation and bring a community together, and she's proud to help champion independent cinema in downtown Bozeman. A product designer and entrepreneur, she loves bringing ideas to life, from user interfaces and brand identities to Montana landscape paintings. When she's not on the BFS board, she's teaching skiing at Bridger Bowl, hiking and cycling with friends, or exploring the world.
